Hawks Route Thunderwolves, 9-0

Hawks Route Thunderwolves, 9-0

The Hawks wrapped up regular play undefeated in both Conference play and NJCAA Region 3 play, and with that, they secured the #1 overall seed for the NJCAA Region 3 tournament. Their 1st test of the 2024 playoffs would be #8 Niagara Community College. That game took place on Tuesday evening, and the Hawks surely made their presense felt early and often in this matchup.

Just four minutes into the matchup, Mohawk Valley's Paige Malowski crushed a penalty kick into the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. It was obvious that the momentum was with the Hawks following that first goal, and just one minute later Isabella Kleban scored a goal of her own, on an assist from Megan Canipe to make it 2-0 Hawks.

After that second goal the physicality on the field was raised and the Thunderwolves began asserting their will and controlling possession for some short stretches. However, the Hawks continued their attack and searched to create more scoring opportunities until they again broke through in the 34th minute when Megan Canipe played a through ball to Audrey Moody who found the back of the net to make it 4-0 in favor of the green and white. Shortly before halftime Kleban found the net one more time for her second goal of the contest, and padded the Hawks lead with just a few minutes left in the half.

As the first half horn sounded, Coach Vitale rallied his team and made some quick adjustments to continue to stay in attack mode.

As the second half started, Megan Canipe's impact on the game continued. The talented Hawk assisted on 3 first half goals, and this time it was her who found the back of the net in the 61st minute of action making it 5-0, Hawks.

Reagan Dalrymple, Krista Panko, Jenna Johnson, and Isabella Kleban would all find the net in the second half to complete a 9-0 victory over the Niagara CC Thunderwolves. Isabella Kleban starred for the Hawks as she tallied a Hat-trick. Megan Canipe tallied 3 assists, Mallory Mower notched 2, and Paige Malowski and Tyler Beckley both added assists as well.

The Hawks defense played a great part in the victory for the surging Hawks as they held the Niagara attack to 0 shots on goal on the evening.

The Mohawk Valley Women's Soccer team continues their quest for an NJCAA Region 3 Championship on Saturday October 26th, as they take on Herkimer College at Genesee Community College.
